My visit was shorter than I had planned, as bus and boat services hadn’t resumed yet after Covid. Kampong Ayer, a settlement built on stilts, probably is the country’s cultural highlight. Despite the similarities with the Gulf States, Brunei doesn’t show off its wealth as ostentatiously.
